My father, Lyman Daoust had the first pasty shop in Hurley Wisconsin. Joe Barbara of Joes Pasty Shop worked for my dad and learned how to make pastys. He claims to be the first but
Daoust Pasty shop was established in the 1930s.
Ask any old timer.

Sheldons look really good but if you’re ever in the Ironwood, MI / Bessemer area or even Rhinelander, WI you have to try Joe’s Pasty shop! They have traditional pasties plus added flavors like Chicken Cordon Bleu and Reuben.

Not sure about the Welsh origins, but here in England tradition states that ‘pasties’, or the ‘pasty’, originated in Cornwall. Some even state Devon as being the original source. Something I’m sure Cornwall resents. Cornwall is renown for its pasty, and holidaying there as a child I would stuff my face with them (or rather my parents would stuff my face with them).
